Serving the communities of Metropolitan Toronto: Lake Ontario to the south, Etobicoke Creek and Highway 427 to the west, Steeles Avenue to the north, and the Rouge River to the east.

Located at the corner of Davenport and Spadina Road near historic Casa Loma, CHS Toronto is the largest of CHS’s regional offices with approximately 60 employees on staff. The wheelchair accessible building is two blocks north of Dupont Station and offers free underground parking for visitors. CHS Toronto offers a wide range of services: Employment Services which includes Workplace Accommodation Assessments and Seminars; WorkForce Literacy Program; interpreting services; sign language classes; CONNECT counselling services, communication devices store; and also boasts a large Audiology department (with nine audiologists on staff). The CHS Toronto building is also home to CHS Head Office.

 

Hearing tests

We offer hearing tests for adults and children aged 3 years and over. If you have a hearing loss, an experienced audiologist will help find the best solution for you.

Hearing aid services

If you need a hearing aid for the first time or want to replace one you already have, our experienced audiologists will make sure you find the one that’s right for your hearing loss and your budget.

Hearing Help classes

Don’t give up your favourite activities because of hearing loss. We offer Hearing Help classes so you can learn about:

  • hearing loss and hearing aids
  • communication devices
  • speech reading and communication strategies
  • assertiveness training and stress management
  • and much more

Meet other people with hearing loss and share common experiences. Bring your spouse or a friend so you can both benefit.

Speech and language programs for children and adults

Our experienced speech-language pathologists provide assessment, therapy and counseling services to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing preschoolers and adults and their families.

CONNECT Counselling

We offer free professional counselling services to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals of all ages, and their families, dealing with mental health issues, addiction, relationship problems, domestic violence or other serious challenges.

General Support Services

We offer guidance, advocacy, support and counselling to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals who request assistance to manage everyday life events including completing government forms and developing strategies to cope with hearing loss.

Hearing Care Counselling

If you’re 55 or older and have a hearing loss, we offer free counselling services to help you improve communication with family and friends, stay involved in social activities, and remain safe and independent at home. Home visits can be arranged as required.

We also serve younger adults (aged 19 and over) with other challenges as well as hearing loss who require home-based services

Our counsellors can also educate care providers, service providers and support groups on how to provide accessible services for people with hearing loss.

With the assistance of the United Way and the City of Toronto, we also provide Ethno-specific services to Chinese, Russian and Portuguese clients.

Services for Job Seekers

Our employment consultants specialize in the unique needs of adults aged 16 and over who are culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing to help you find a job and succeed at work.

Literacy and basic skills

​This Employment Ontario program is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario and through the Canada-Ontario Job Fund Agreement


CHS offers literacy classes in American Sign Language (ASL) to individuals to promote their language and skills development; to become more independent in personal and social aspects of daily living; improve their pre-employment and employment related literacy skills; and as well prepare for other education and training.

Instruction is offered one-one and in group sessions on-site, off site or via e-learning or videoconferencing.

Our specialized Workplace Literacy program focuses on the literacy related to the learner’s specific employment goal, including: fundamental basics to resume writing, interviews, communication and language of the work environment.

CHS Toronto also partners with CHS Employment Services for its information workshops.

Sign Language Classes for Individuals

For Individuals

Sign language classes at CHS offer you an enjoyable and effective curriculum to learn American Sign Language (ASL) through classroom instruction, videotext and role-playing. Our qualified Deaf instructors use Signing Naturally, a sign language curriculum that teaches both ASL and Deaf culture to help you better understand the communication needs of the Deaf community.

Courses are offered in the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer if minimum class size requirements are reached.

 

For Businesses, Agencies and Organizations

We can provide short-term ASL courses for businesses, agencies and organizations. To learn more about sign language classes for businesses, click here

 

Communication Devices

We offer expert advice, sales, installation and training on a wide range of communication devices to enhance communication for culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.

We’re here to help you find the best technical solutions, at the best price, to enhance communication in your home or at your business, organization or facility.

We offer products on-site at our retail store and in-person consultations with our communication devices specialists. Call for more information or come in to see us.

Sign Language Interpreters

Ontario Interpreting Services at CHS provides American Sign Language (ASL)-English interpreting services across Ontario, and la langue des signes québécoise (LSQ)–French interpreting services primarily in the Ottawa and Sudbury regions, but arrangements can be made for other locations in the province.


For your convenience, all bookings are done through our centralized scheduling centre in Ottawa.
